Not every puppy is intended for service work — and that is the point of thoughtful placement. Some dogs are better suited to family companionship, therapy, facility work, or other roles. The goal is to understand the dog in front of the program and place them where they are most likely to thrive.

For a family, service-lineage breeding is not a promise that every puppy will behave the same way. It is a foundation: intentional pairings, health-focused decisions, temperament awareness, and a placement process that looks beyond coat color or availability.

Families can begin with a companion puppy or add professional training based on how much preparation they want before go-home. The current S.T.A.R. Puppy PLUS program is designed for early foundations, while Canine Good Citizen PLUS extends that work into stronger public manners and everyday reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all Goldadors of York puppies intended to become service dogs?

No. The program raises dogs for multiple outcomes, including service work, therapy, facility or educational roles, and family companionship. Placement is about the role and home that best fit the individual dog.

How much is a family & companion puppy?

The current Pricing & Process page lists the companion puppy at $2,800. Training Packages are separate and optional.

What training can I add before my puppy comes home?

Goldadors currently offers AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy PLUS for early foundations and AKC Canine Good Citizen PLUS for more advanced public manners and everyday reliability. The approximate go-home ages are about 4 months and 6 months, respectively.

How does matching work?

The process begins with an Adoption Inquiry and consultation covering goals, lifestyle, experience, timing, training expectations, and availability. Reservation comes after the fit and pathway are clearer.

What health testing is part of the program?

Goldadors states that OFA and DNA testing are used across its breeding lines, with health, temperament, trainability, and longevity guiding breeding decisions. Ask to review the records relevant to the specific pairing you are considering.

What if I am not sure which breed or training level is right for our family?

You do not need to decide before applying. The Adoption Inquiry includes room to ask for guidance, and the consultation is used to narrow the right breed, dog, timing, and training path.
