For years, the breeding and training program behind Goldadors of York worked alongside Pawsitive Action Service Dogs, placing hundreds of dogs at no cost with veterans and first responders across the country.

That non-profit chapter concluded in 2025. Today, Norma Ross continues the work through Goldadors of York as a direct, paid placement and training program — carrying forward the same emphasis on health, temperament, purposeful preparation, and thoughtful matching.

This pathway is intended for veterans and first responders seeking service-dog preparation related to a disability or task-oriented support need. The conversation begins with what daily life requires from the dog, then works backward into fit, training, timing, and handler preparation.

The mission changed structure, not standards: purposeful dogs, thoughtful matches, and preparation for the life the team will actually live.

Preparation With Purpose

Public-Access Readiness

Full Access Preparation builds on foundational training with public manners, Community Canine preparation, and structured work in environments where calm, reliable behavior matters.

Handler + Dog Teamwork

Training is not finished when the dog knows the skill. The handler also needs clear expectations, practice, and a transition plan that can be continued consistently after placement.

Task-Oriented Goals

Service-dog needs are individual. Specific task goals and any additional training are discussed during consultation and shaped around the handler, the dog’s suitability, and the work required.

The Full Access Path

Goldadors of York currently offers three training levels.

Full Access Preparation is the most advanced pathway and is designed for handlers preparing for service-dog public-access expectations.

The current program lists an approximate go-home age of 8–9 months for Full Access Preparation. Timing can vary because dogs mature differently, and Goldadors may keep a dog a little longer when needed to ensure the promised skills are understood before go-home.

A medical-provider letter is required by Goldadors for Full Access Preparation. That is a program eligibility requirement used to guide this training pathway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this still the former no-cost Pawsitive Action program?

No. The nonprofit placement chapter concluded in 2025. Goldadors of York now operates a direct, paid placement and training model. The earlier service work remains part of the program’s experience and lineage, but the current process and costs are different.

Does being a veteran or first responder automatically make me eligible for the service-dog pathway?

No. This pathway is centered on a disability-related or task-oriented service-dog need. Goldadors requires a medical-provider letter for Full Access Preparation and uses the consultation to understand goals, readiness, and the appropriate training path.

How long does Full Access Preparation take?

The current training program lists an approximate go-home age of 8–9 months. Timing may vary with the dog’s maturity and progress. 

Does the dog purchase price include Full Access training?

No. The puppy or dog purchase and training are priced separately. The current dog price is listed at $2,800, while Full Access Preparation is currently listed at $8,600 for training only. See Pricing & Process for details.

What kinds of service tasks can be trained?

Specific task goals should be discussed during consultation. Goldadors currently describes Full Access as advanced service-dog and public-access preparation, with additional training available on request; the exact plan depends on the handler’s needs and the dog’s suitability.

What happens if I cannot complete intensive team training in York?

For the current Full Access program, Goldadors states that a local qualified canine coach is required if the handler cannot complete intensive team training with Goldadors.
